A 2026 season full of hope and high expectations has now backfired on Gator Nation, as standout sophomore running back Jadan Baugh is expected to hit the transfer portal once the Jan. 2, 2026, window opens up, according to Horns247.

So far, both the Texas Longhorns and the Florida Gators are the only two teams in contention for Baugh, according to On3.

Baugh was the only gleaming bright spot, totaling 1,170 on 220 attempts with eight scores on the ground, including a 266-yard outing against rival Florida State to end the regular season.

Although he finished the season strong, the season was less than fruitful, with a 4-8 record, including a surprise upset loss to the University of South Florida.

This would result in head coach Billy Napier being fired after a win a few weeks later over Mississippi State, to the surprise of no one, as “fire Billy” chants had roared loudly even in victory.

Florida wide receivers coach Billy Gonzalez took the reins as interim head coach to finish the remainder of the season. On November 30, Tulane head coach Jon Sumerall was hired by Florida as its new head coach.

Sumerall racked up 20 wins to only seven losses as Tulane head coach, including a College Football Playoff berth in 2025.

Although Florida has hired Sumerall, he will still be coaching Tulane in the College Football Playoff.

With Napier’s firing in October and Sumerall’s hiring in late November, Gator fans were expecting their players to improve tremendously in the offseason under Sumeral’s tutelage.

Instead, Gator fans are now uncertain as 16 players have so far hit the transfer portal.

Some of whom were touted as the future of the Florida program, such as starting quarterback DJ Lagway, starting receiver Aidan Mizell, and starting tight end Hayden Hansen.

Gator fans are hoping for a Christmas miracle that can salvage their 2026 season.
